How to Save PS1 Games on a PS2 Game Card

Although the Sony PlayStation 2 provides better graphics and a larger gaming library than the original Sony PlayStation, the two devices share several common features. Both devices use the same controllers with the same ports and both video game systems save game content on the same memory cards. Although the game cards created for the PlayStation 2 are larger and can fit more information, you can easily use the card with the original PlayStation.

Things You'll Need

  • PlayStation 2 game card

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the Sony PlayStation 2 video game card into the memory port over the controller in slot 1.

    • 2

Insert a game into the top CD tray on the gaming device and power on the Sony PlayStation. It takes a few moments for the video game to load.

    • 3

Start a new game. Once the video game loads begin to play the video game until you reach a save checkpoint or are allowed to quit and save.

    • 4

Select "Save Game" and the Sony PlayStation game information is saved onto the PS2's game controller. From here it is possible to remove the memory card (when the PlayStation has its power off) and insert it back into a PlayStation 2. Although the two devices may not recognize files made for each system, you can still save content from both consoles.
