Things You'll Need
Instructions
Examine the back of your television to determine whether you have multiple inputs. Most modern televisions have at least two input types. If yours has two, you will not need to use the A/V receiver to handle all your inputs. Check to see if you have a coaxial input, denoted by the threaded exterior of the input jack, often labeled "cable". You should also see an RCA-style input, which has red, white and yellow inputs and is often labeled "video". The yellow is for video; the red and white are for audio.
Connect the PlayStation output cable to the RCA-style input on the television. The PlayStation output cable will have a flat plug on one end, and an RCA-style plug, with red, white and yellow connectors, on the other end. This cable should have come with your PlayStation. If not, visit a video game retailer to purchase one.
Connect the coaxial cable from your satellite receiver into the coaxial input on your television. Coaxial cable has a center pin sticking out of the tip and a nut-style collar around the tip that screws down onto the input jack to make sure you achieve a solid connection. For best results, make sure this collar is tightened fully.
Refer to the owner's manual for your television to determine how you can alternate between the inputs. Many televisions will display the coaxial input on Channel 3 or 4 and the RCA-style input on Channel 0 or on a channel titled "AUX".
Tune the television to the input you determined the PlayStation was on in the last step. Turn on the PlayStation, insert a game disc and enjoy your favorite game.
You will need to switch the TV back to the other input when you want to resume watching television.
