Size
The controllers for each video game console are quite similar in size. Though the XBox 360 controller is thicker, when measured, each are about 6 inches by 3 1/2 inches in size.
Layout
Both controllers feature the same number of buttons. They each have two joysticks, an arrow-based directional pad, a "Start" button, a "Select" button and four other buttons (A, B, X and Y on the XBox 360, and Triangle, Square, Circle and X on the PlayStation 3).
Wireless
Both controllers feature wireless capabilities, meaning they do not have to be physically plugged into the system to play. This allows users to move around anywhere in the room and still have complete control over their video games.
"Home" Button
Each controller features a "Home" button in the center of the controller that enables the user to quickly get back to the console's main menu in one button click no matter what they are doing.
Differences
The major difference between the controllers is the placement of the two joysticks. The PlayStation 3 controller puts its two joysticks next to each other on the front of the device. The XBox 360 controller moves the joystick on the left side of the device to a higher position, above the directional pad.
