Combat
Exploit the weaknesses of your enemies. In order to spot them, you'll need to do a bit of detective work. Keep in mind the area where you encountered this enemy. For example, if you're fighting on a snow-covered mountain, then next time try fire attacks. Fight water-based foes with electric-based attacks. Also, take a look at the enemy itself. Those covered in armor will be able to defend themselves from physical attacks, while mystical enemies are going to be strong against magic attacks. Consider switching your tactics.
While in battle, use the Examine command when faced with a new enemy. This command will allow you to learn the abilities of your foes, which is especially helpful during the first part of the game. Learn their capabilities early on, so you can weaken your enemies will be sooner, and be more able to defend yourself later. As Breath of Fire III progresses, examine only the enemies that pose no direct threat to your party; a boss battle is a bad time to leave your characters vulnerable to attack.
