Hints for Breath of Fire 3

Breath of Fire III is a Capcom-developed role-playing game that was released for the PlayStation in 1998. Players assume the role of Ryu, a boy with mysterious powers, and experience his adventure during two periods in his life. The game extends beyond traditional role-playing tropes by having characters transform into dragons to test their combat skills in battle. Many players welcome some hints to getting the most out of Breath of Fire III.
  1. Combat

    • Exploit the weaknesses of your enemies. In order to spot them, you'll need to do a bit of detective work. Keep in mind the area where you encountered this enemy. For example, if you're fighting on a snow-covered mountain, then next time try fire attacks. Fight water-based foes with electric-based attacks. Also, take a look at the enemy itself. Those covered in armor will be able to defend themselves from physical attacks, while mystical enemies are going to be strong against magic attacks. Consider switching your tactics.
While in battle, use the Examine command when faced with a new enemy. This command will allow you to learn the abilities of your foes, which is especially helpful during the first part of the game. Learn their capabilities early on, so you can weaken your enemies will be sooner, and be more able to defend yourself later. As Breath of Fire III progresses, examine only the enemies that pose no direct threat to your party; a boss battle is a bad time to leave your characters vulnerable to attack.

    Dragon Transformations

    • Breath of Fire III allows players to transform into dragons, and alter their abilities and stats of their dragons in battle. The following types of dragons can be used in battle:
      Whelp: Your basic, baby dragon.
Dragon: The adult version of the Whelp, with an added boost in hit points (HP), power and defense.
Behemoth: What is lacks in agility it makes up for in its offense and defensive abilities.
Mammoth: The dragon that features the highest HP.
Trygon: Similar to the standard Dragon, but without elemental properties.
Warrior: A hybrid of human and dragon, high in power, low in HP.
Myrmidon: Similar to the Warrior with a boost in HP.
Pygmy: A weak dragon with the appearance of a worm.
Tiamat: Immune to status effects, but takes an entire party to create.
Wildfire: Similar to the Whelp, but has high defense and huge power boost.
Hybrids: The combination of two characters in your party.

    Fishing

    • Never pass up an opportunity to fish. More than just a way to pass the time, the fish you catch are useful in battle as both curative and offensive aides. The following are types of fish and their uses in battle:
      Piranha: Restore 20 HP
      Trout: Restore 40 HP
      Bass: Restore 80 HP
      Black Bass: Restore random HP
      Man-o-War: Restore 1 HP
      Flying Fish: Restore random HP
      Sea Bass: Restore 80 HP
      Puffer: Flame attack
      Martian Squid: Blinds enemies
      Octopus: Blinds all enemies
      Angler: Earthquake attack
      Devilfish: Electric attack

In addition, capturing Manillo will allow you to unlock his shop, where you can purchase rare items for your party.
