Operating System
The recommended operating system for Resident Evil 2 is Windows 95/98/2000. If you have Windows Vista, you will need an emulator, as Resident Evil 2 is incompatible with this operating system's structure. Enable "Compatibility Mode" by right-clicking the game's .EXE file, and then choose the Compatibility tab from the Properties Menu.
RAM Requirements
Resident Evil 2 needs a decent amount of RAM in order to store game saves as well as cache data. When it is installed, the game will set aside 24MB of RAM specifically for this purpose. This is enough space for multiple saves and plenty of game data.
Processor
In order to run Resident Evil 2 on your computer without incident, you will need a Pentium processor with at least 166 MHz of power. More advanced processors are fine, but modern AMD processors may not work without special software.
Video Memory
In addition to RAM memory, Resident Evil 2 will also need to set aside some memory for video. This ensures that the game's framerate stays sharp and none of the action appears choppy. Resident Evil 2 requires a modest 1 MB of video memory.
Sound and Video Card
In order for Resident Evil 2 to run at its highest technical capability, you will need a Sound and Video card that has DirectX 6.0 or higher installed. This value does not have an upper limit, and as long as you are above 6.0, your sound and video card should work just fine.
