How to Make a PSP Read From a PS3 Hard Drive

If you own both a Sony PSP and a Sony PlayStation 3, you can access files contained on your PS3's hard drive via your PSP using a feature called "Remote Play." This option does not come enabled by default on the PlayStation 3, as there is no guarantee that you will also own a PSP. This feature must be enabled on your PlayStation 3 before you can proceed.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Sony PlayStation 3 and select the "Settings" menu.

    • 2

Select "Remote Play Settings" and choose "Register Device." Your Sony PSP will appear as a device in this window. Select it using your controller to join or "pair" your PSP and PS3.

    • 3

Return to the "Remote Play Settings" window and make sure that "Remote Start" is set to "On." If it isn't, turn it on. When this is done, turn off your PlayStation 3 using its main menu command.

    • 4

Turn on your Sony PSP and choose the "Network" menu option.

    • 5

Choose "Remote Play," followed by "Connect Via Internet." You will be asked to pick which wireless network connection you want to use when activating this feature. Select the listing for the same wireless network that your PlayStation 3 is connected to. When prompted, enter your PlayStation Network user identification name and password. Your Sony PSP and PlayStation 3 are now connected via "Remote Play." The PSP can now read from the PS3's hard drive.
