How to Install a UMD Movie on a PSP

Sony PSP is a handheld gaming console that offers realistic graphics and clear sound in game play and other features such as online capability. You can also load videos onto your PSP after you have installed a custom firmware. You will require a custom firmware before you can perform homebrew applications or transfer video to your PSP. Once a custom firmware is functioning, loading a video onto your PSP involves transferring the file from your computer.

      Connect a USB cable to the USB port on your Sony PSP. Connect the other end of the cable to an available USB port on your computer.

      Go to the "Settings" menu on the Sony PSP and create a "USB Connection." Create a USB Connection by pressing "X" on the "Home" button in the lower left hand corner of the PSP screen. Navigate to the left until you find "Settings." Press "X" on "Settings" and scroll down to "USB Connection." Press "X" to enable the USB connection between your PSP and computer.

      Go to "Start," "My Computer" and click on your PSP drive. Your computer will automatically assign your PSP a drive letter such as the "E:/" or "G:" drive.

      Rename the file name of the UMD movie after the file format M4V or MAQ extension. Following the file format of the video there is a sequence of five characters. You need to rename them to any five numbers of your choice.

      Place the MP4/MPEG movies in the directory: x: \ MP_ROOT \ 100MNV01 \M4V*****.mp4. Place the MP4 AVC/H264 videos into the directory: x: \ MP_ROOT \ 100ANV01 \ MAQ*****.mp4. Replace the asterisks with the five digits you have chosen.
