How to Connect My Sony PSP to Internet Browsers

Not only is the Sony PSP capable of playing games, music and movies, it also has the ability to browse the Internet. To set your PSP up so it can connect to the Internet, all you need is access to a wireless network.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a wireless access point. A wireless home network is ideal; however, if you don't have a wireless router in your house, you can go to an Internet cafe or similar establishment. Keep in mind you might need to obtain a password before you can access the network.

    • 2

Turn on the WLAN switch on the PSP. On the PSP-1000 and PSP GO, the switch is located at the bottom of the lefthand side. On the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000, the switch is located at the top on the lefthand side.

    • 3

Access the network settings on the PSP. Go to the PSP Home screen and highlight "Settings" on the cross-media bar. Choose "Network Setting" from the settings menu and select the option for "Infrastructure Mode."

    • 4

Select "Scan" to search for available wireless access points.

    • 5

Choose the name of the access point that you want to connect to and press "X."

    • 6

Name the SSID. It's a good idea to give it a descriptive name so you can readily identify it in the future. Press the right arrow on the directional pad to continue to the WLAN security settings.

    • 7

Input the password or WPA key for the network if it is security protected. Press the right arrow on the directional pad to continue to the address settings.

    • 8

Highlight the option "Easy" under the address settings and press the right arrow on the directional pad to continue.

    • 9

Enter a name for the connection. To keep things simple, you can make it the same name you used for the SSID. Press the right arrow on the directional pad to review the settings list.

    • 10

Press "X" to save the settings and then test the connection. After a few moments, the PSP should make a connection with the network. If you are unable to connect, a message will appear giving reasons and possible solutions for the failed connection.

    • 11

Return to the PSP Home screen once a connection has been established and select "Network" from the cross-media bar.

    • 12

Choose "Internet Browser" from the network options to bring up an empty gray browser on the screen.

    • 13

Highlight the address bar at the top of the browser and press "X." Enter the name of a website you wish to visit and press "Start." You will be prompted to select an access point. Choose the name of the access point you just set up and press "X." If there are no problems with the network, you will be sent to the website and can continue to browse the Internet from your PSP as you please.
