How to Fix the Freezing-Up Problem With PSP

If your Sony PSP is freezing up when playing new game titles, you are in need of a firmware update. The firmware is the software that runs the game system and allows you to play both downloaded games and games on Universal Media Discs. Updating your firmware updates the PSP's compatibility with all gaming titles, which will fix freezing problems and allow you to play uninhibited.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your Sony PSP's memory stick inside its memory slot. You cannot update a PSP's firmware via the Internet unless the memory stick is inserted.

    • 2

Turn on your PSP. Select the "System" main menu option.

    • 3

Select "System Update." From this screen, choose "Update Via Internet."

    • 4

Select the name of the wireless connection you want to use to update your Sony PSP. Pick a connection that is stable; if you're currently moving away from a connection or have a weak signal, choose another one because a weak connection can disrupt the download of the update.

    • 5

Press the PSP's "X" button. This will download and install the latest firmware update.
