How to Change the PSP LED Light Color

The Sony PSP is one of the leading handheld gaming systems and has found its way into the homes and hearts of millions. The PSP has bridged the gap between gaming systems and personal computer, giving users access to thousands of features in the palm of their hand. In all, the PSP has sold over 50 million units worldwide. It isn't uncommon to bump into someone with a PSP. This can be a problem for individuals who enjoy originality. Luckily, the PSP can be easily reassembled and customized.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Wire stripper
  • Low wattage soldering tool
  • 0603 SMD LED's
  • Tweezers
  • Hot glue

Instructions

    • 1

      Disconnect the PSP from the power adapter. Press and hold the small rectangular button located on the back left of the PSP. This will slide off the battery cover. Remove the battery.

      Unscrew the seven case screws that holds the PSP in place. Two are located directly under the battery and are visible. Two more are located directly under the warranty sticker. Two additional screws are located on the right backside of the PSP. The final screw is located under the PSP adjacent to the serial number.

      Locate the LED lights in the bottom right-hand corner of the PSP. Cut the two red connection cables running from the LED light to the mother board. Remove the LED light and its original cables from the PSP.

      Strip the connection cables, revealing the various wires on the new LED light you are going to install.

      Solder the cables to the PSP motherboard where the previous cables had been. Secure the new LED light in place with hot glue. Allow the glue to dry and the components to cool.

      Replace each screw to close the PSP.
