PSP Memory Specs

The Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) is a hand-held video game system that plays games recorded on Universal Media Disks (UMDs). It comes in two basic models: the PSP-3000 and the smaller PSP Go. Of the two, the PSP-3000 has more add-on features. The PSP Go, by contrast, is designed for portability, being 43 percent smaller than the original PSP. The two types of PSP use different amounts of several memory types.
  1. Built-in Storage

    • The PSP Go ships with 16 GB of built-in flash memory, on which it stores downloaded games. The PSP-3000 uses games on discs and so has no built-in storage, instead relying on a separately purchased memory sticks.

    Memory Sticks

    • The PSP-3000 uses Memory Stick Duo technology, while the PSP Go uses smaller Memory Stick Micro cards. Both are available in 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB sizes. These cards are used to store movies, music, and photos as well as games downloaded from the PSP's Wi-Fi connection. They are solid-state memory cards that store data on chips rather than magnetic disks. This makes them smaller and more durable than hard drive or optical disk storage.

    RAM

    • The PSP-300 has 64 MB of RAM built in. This is the memory used to run programs rather than store files. Larger amounts of RAM allow the processor to handle complex graphics and video more quickly. The PSP Go also has 64 MB of RAM.
