It was developed as a counterfeiting and piracy prevention technology, meant to lock out counterfeit products. The PSP Slim uses the Memory Stick Pro Duo format as its primary form of expandable memory.   Insert your Memory Stick Pro Duo into your Memory Stick to USB converter.

  Insert the converter into your computer's USB slot.

  Open the Start menu, then click "Computer."

  Locate your Memory Stick Pro Duo -- it can be found under the heading "Removable Storage Devices."

  Right-click on the Memory Stick Pro Duo, then click on "Format."

  Click "Fat32" from the drop-down menu, then highlight the "Quick Format" option.

  Click "Format" at the bottom of the program window to begin the formatting process. Your Memory Stick should function properly in your PSP Slim after the reformat.
