How to Manually Drain a PSP Battery

Some early PlayStation Portable battery models have defective memory modules, making it impossible to charge or boot. Getting a new battery through the PSP warranty can take some time, and the only way to fix the problem, other than purchasing a new battery, is to manually reset the battery. After the battery is completely drained, it will automatically reset the memory. You can drain the battery manually in just a few minutes with a paper clip.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off the PSP.

    • 2

Turn the PSP over so you are looking at the PSP logo on the back.

    • 3

Open the battery door by pressing on the release button and taking the door off the PSP.

    • 4

Take the battery out of the PSP by turning the PSP over and letting the battery fall into your hand.

    • 5

Bend the paper clip to resemble a "U" shape. Place one end of the paper clip on the positive battery terminal on the PSP battery and the other end on the negative terminal.

    • 6

Hold the paper clip to the battery for about a minute. This should completely drain the battery.

    • 7

Put the battery back into the PSP and plug the system into a wall to charge. Let the battery charge for at least six hours.
