How to Play PSP Videos on a TV

PSP owners with a desire to access their videos and games without being confined to the PSP's screen have an effective alternative. As a feature added with the PSP Slim model redesign, all subsequent Sony PlayStation Portable iterations, including the PSPgo, feature the ability to connect to an external display. Content featured on a PSP can be displayed on a television using specially-designed cables, sold separately by Sony. While the PSP 2001 series can output photos, music and videos, only the PSP 3001 and PSPgo can output games.

Things You'll Need

  • Component/composite cables
  • PSP 2001-3001 system or PSPgo
  • Television with AV inputs

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the video output cable's connector into the bottom of the PSP system.

    • 2

Plug the video output cable's color-coded connectors into the video input ports on your television, matching colors on the cable to the ports on the television. If using component cables, your television must have compatible input ports, as standard AV ports will not work with the PSP component cable.

    • 3

Turn on your television and select the correct channel for the video input ports you connected to in Step 2. Turn on the PSP system.

    • 4

Press and hold the "Display" button on the PSP system for five seconds. The button is located on the front of standard PSP models and on the top edge of the PSPgo, behind the sliding screen. The PSP will display on your television screen, allowing you to navigate the handheld's menu and display content, such as videos. When finished viewing content on your television screen, press the "Display" button to return output to the PSP screen.
