How to Upgrade a PSP 1000 3.52 M33-4 to 5.00 M33

The installation of custom firmware opens up new features on the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP). These features include the ability to play entire PSP games off the memory stick instead of the disc drive. M33 is one of the more popular choices for custom firmware, and it is frequently updated to include new features. Updating the firmware to recent releases is very easy, as it uses the PSP's main menu to install the update onto the device.

Instructions

      Connect the PSP to your computer with the USB cable and select "USB Connection" from the main menu. A window will appear on the computer and you'll see the files and folders on the PSP memory stick.

      Download the 5.00 M33 update from the resource section of this guide. Right-click the file after it has finished downloading and click "Extract." The "Update" folder will be extracted from the downloaded archive.

      Open the "Update" folder and select all of the contents inside of it. Right-click one of the them and click "Copy" from the menu that appears.

      Right-click the "Update" folder on the PSP memory stick and click "Paste" to transfer the data onto the PSP memory stick. Press the "O" button on the PSP to safely disconnect it from the computer.

      Go into the game section of the PSP main menu and select the "M33 5.00 Update" application. Press the "X" button to begin the installation of the 5.00 M33 firmware. Press the "X" button once more to reboot the PSP after the install completes. When the PSP reboots, it will be running the updated M33 custom firmware.
