How to Use PSP As an eBook Reader

The PSP gaming system, Sony's first attempt to jump into the portable gaming market, provides users with a number of features beyond portable gaming. Users can watch videos, listen to music, surf the internet and view photos on the PSP game system. One feature that often goes unnoticed, however, is the PSP's ability to function as an eReader. In a few simple steps, your PSP can be transformed into an eReader, giving you access to all of your favorite books on the go.

      Open your web browser on your computer and navigate to the Playstation Media Manager homepage. Click the "Download Now" button to begin downloading the Playstation Media Manager. When the Media Manager has finished downloading, install it onto your computer.

      Download the eBooks you want to put on your PSP onto your computer. Websites such as Project Gutenberg provide free, legal eBooks to download. Electronic books can also be purchased from websites such as eBooks and eLibrary. Make sure to download the files in HTML format.

      Plug your PSP into your computer using the USB adapter that came with the PSP system. Switch your PSP into USB mode by selecting the option from the menu furthest to the left on the Cross Media Bar. Make sure you have a Memory Stick Pro Duo in your PSP. This is where you will need to save the eBooks.

      Run the Media Manager software you downloaded in Step 1. Your PSP system should appear in the list of devices. Highlight your PSP system by clicking on it.

      Click the "Documents" button at the top of the window. Locate the eBook you wish to transfer to your PSP and highlight it by clicking on it. Click the "Transfer to PSP" button and allow several seconds for the transfer to complete. Safely eject your PSP system from your computer by right clicking on it and selecting "Eject" from the menu. Switch your PSP out of USB mode.

      Navigate to your Internet browser on the Cross Media Bar of your PSP system. Press triangle to bring up a list of options and select "Bookmarks." Select "My Bookmarks," followed by "Media Manager Documents." From here, select your eBook from the list of HTML documents and begin reading.
