How do I Change WMA Setting on a PSP Without Internet?

The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) does not support WMA (Windows Media Audio) out of the box. Sony has made support possible through an Internet connection enable switch. This means you need to be running official Sony firmware and be connected to the Internet to enable WMA. There is a trick for those running custom firmware that will enable WMA playback without having to connect to the Internet and without having to use Sony's firmware. The PSP recovery menu has a registry hack that enables WMA playback instantly.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Sony PSP by holding the power button for five seconds. Hold the "Right" trigger and push the power button to turn the PSP back on. Continue to hold the power button until you see the "Recovery Menu."

    • 2

Select "Registry Hacks" from the Recovery main menu and select the "Enable WMA Playback." This allows you to enable the use of WMA without connecting to the Internet.

    • 3

Select "Exit" to return to the main Recovery menu. Select "Exit" once more to reboot the PSP into the PSP operating system. WMA playback has now been enabled.
