How to Get UMD on a Memory Stick to Play

Unlike the PSP Go, the older PSP console had an attached Universal Media Disc (UMD) reader. The UMD was a proprietary portable format Sony used to put games and movies on the PSP device. If you want to get a UMD game onto your inserted memory stick, you have to download it. Then getting it to play is a breeze.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on the PSP device and press the Home button to bring up the main PSP menu. Flip the WLAN switch on the top of the console to the On position.

    • 2

Navigate to the "PlaystationNetwork" section and choose "PlaystationShop." You will be prompted to connect to the Internet and log in or create a login and password. If you haven't used the Internet on the PSP or are in a new area, select "(New Connection)" and follow the on-screen prompts to connect to the Internet. If you don't have an account, you can sign up for one using the link under "Resources" below.

    • 3

Browse the PlaystationStore and locate a full UMD game that you would like to purchase. There are also Playstation One classics, and PlaystationNetwork "Minis," but the full games are listed in the "Games" section.

    • 4

Select the game and choose "add to cart." Repeat to pick up any other games you want, and select the "Cart" icon to check out.

    • 5

Select "Proceed to Checkout" and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the transaction and begin downloading the game. Wait for the game to finish downloading.

    • 6

Press the "Home" button again to bring up the PSP Home menu. Navigate to the "Games" section of the menu, and press "X" to select the UMD game you downloaded to your MemoryStik Duo media.
