How to Rip a DVD to a PSP Memory Stick

One of the many features of the Sony PSP is a video player, which you can use to play movies on the console. To do that, you need to rip the movie to the PSP memory stick, and you'll also need to convert the file into a format the PSP can play--which is MP4 only. After you've done that, you can play the movie on your PSP.

Install DVD ripping software to your computer. There are two such programs listed under the resources: Slysoft's Any DVD for PCs and Simply Burns for Mac.

Insert the DVD into your computer.

    • 3

Start the program, and use its functions to select a destination folder and change any settings for the DVD rip. Consult the online help if you're uncertain about any of the buttons or controls on your DVD program, and when ready, start the DVD rip process.

Download and install the PSP-compatible file-conversion software. There are two such programs listed under the resources: PSP video 9 for PCs and iPSP for Mac computers.

    • 5

Open the PSP file-conversion software and locate the functions needed to convert the movie file into an MP4 file. If you have problems locating these functions, consult the online help for your program of choice--you can find this at the website from which you downloaded the software.

Power on the PSP and plug the USB cable in to the top of the PSP console. Connect the other end to the computer USB.

Press the "Home" button on the PSP console and navigate the home menu to the "Settings" function and scroll up to the "USB connection" function. Press X to start the connection.

    • 8

Locate the PSP memory stick folder, using the computer's Explorer or Finder function.

    • 9

Open a second Explorer or Finder window and locate the MP4 file version of your movie. Drag and drop that movie into the PSP memory stick folder, and wait for the copy to finish.
