How to Fix a PSP That Won't Charge

The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a personal gaming device based on the Sony PlayStation format. You can experience the Sony PlayStation gaming experience anywhere you go with a PSP. Many features come packed in the small system, including multiplayer ability via a local ad hoc system or through the specialized online Infrastructure. Like any electronic device, a PSP may suffer malfunctions. If your PSP is not charging correctly, troubleshooting tips may lead to a solution.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect your AC adapter and power cord for damage. Look for cracks and splits in the wire. A damaged adapter or cord will not charge safely.

    • 2

Verify that your AC adapter is licensed for use with a Sony PSP. Licensed adapters have a Sony PSP certified logo. The use of accessories not licensed by Sony will void any warranty and may damage your PSP.

    • 3

Check the outlet you are using. Verify that it is functioning correctly by plugging in another electronic device or try plugging the PSP into another electrical outlet.

    • 4

Purchase or borrow another AC adapter and power cord. Your adapter or cord may have unseen damage that is preventing your PSP from charging correctly.

    • 5

Remove the battery. Attempt to power on your PSP by using the AC adapter and power cord plugged into an electrical outlet.

    • 6

Unplug the power cord and AC adapter. Replace the battery correctly in your PSP. Plug the power cord and AC adapter in and attempt to charge.

    • 7

Contact Sony PSP customer service. If after trying attempting all of these steps your PSP will not charge, contact Sony PSP customer service.
