How to Get My PSP Analog Stick to Work

The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) was one of the first portable video game devices to include an analog stick as its directional pad. This allows for much more enriched game-play as the analog stick gives you the freedom to move more smoothly and precisely. Sometimes, however, the analog stick can become stuck or even break off because of overuse. If either one of these are the case, a simple cleaning or replacement is needed.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Flat-head tool
  • Replacement analog stick
  • Canned air

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the battery cover and battery from the rear of the PSP. This reveals four screws. Use your Phillips-head screwdriver to remove these screws along with the other two on the opposite end. Remove the final screw on the bottom edge.

    • 2

Use your fingernails or flat-head tool to pry the analog stick up and off of the PSP. Gently remove the PSP faceplate. Use the canned air to spray the analog stick mechanism as well as the analog stick itself.

    • 3

Place the faceplate back onto the PSP and snap in your current analog stick or the new analog stick into the PSP. Tighten the screws up on the PSP and turn the PSP on.

    • 4

Use the analog stick and you will notice that it now works.
