Switch on the PSP console. If you have not already set up the device, it will prompt you to input the time, date, location and other details about the console and you as a user. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete this set up. Press X to select things. When you need to type words in, press X to bring up the on-screen keyboard. Navigate with the directional pad or analog stick and press X to select letters.
Press the "Home" button whenever you want to bring up the XPlorer Media Bar (XMB), which acts as the main menu. You can navigate the menu by pressing the directional pad buttons or the analog stick. Under "Settings" you&'ll find all of the options that you can set and change for the console. "Extras" houses the comics reader and other added features. "Video" and "Music" contain your videos and songs respectively. "Games" is where your downloaded and UMD games will appear, and "Network" and "PlaystationNetwork" access the online features.
Press X to select one of the features of the console.
Open the UMD slot on the back and slip the UMD into the back. The graphic on the top of the UMD should face outward, while the void in the plastic on the back should face toward the battery. Navigate to the Game section of the PSP menu, and the UMD will show up on the console.
Play the game. If you have problems getting the game played, consult the manual for the game. For most games, you can press the X button to select things, and the "Circle" button to back out of things. The "Start" button should pause the game.
Press the "Home" button to back out to the main menu.
Flip the WLAN switch on the top of the device to the On position if you want to connect to the Internet. Navigate to an online feature and press X to select it. If you haven&'t connected to the web with the console before, you will need to set up a "[New connection]" and follow the on-screen prompts to select your network and input any network security.
Switch off the device by sliding the on switch up, then releasing it. You can switch the console off in the middle of a game, and it will come back to the same point where you switched it off.
