PSP Game Download Tutorial

The Sony PlayStation Portable hand-held gaming system offers numerous forms of media functionality in addition to the system&'s standard Universal Media Disk format. Through the PlayStation Network Store, games, videos, digital comics and other media content are available for purchase and download.

For PSP owners wishing to store games on the system, doing away with the need to carry UMD games, full PSP titles, original PlayStation titles and smaller PSP Minis can all be downloaded to the PSP&'s memory through a variety of methods. A free PlayStation Network account is required to purchase and download content.

Instructions

  1. Creating a PlayStation Network Account

      Click "Sign In" on upper right corner of the PlayStation website. When the log-on screen for the PlayStation Network appears, click on "I Want to Create an Account" to proceed with the PSN account-creation process.

      Click "Continue" from the PSN account-creation screen. Enter your region, language, and birth date and click "Continue" to proceed.

      Choose the type of account you wish to create. A master account must be created to utilize all PSN functionality. Accept the PSN terms of service and enter the verification number presented on the screen.

      Enter your account information, including email address, password and security question. Click "Continue," and a confirmation email will be sent to your email address. Visit your email and click the link in the confirmation email to proceed with registration.

      Enter a PSN ID name for your account. Your PSN ID must be unique, and will be displayed while logged into the PlayStation Network. Click "Continue" to proceed.

      Enter your name, address and payment information, is desired. Proceed and choose the email notifications you wish to receive. Confirm your account information, and the PSN account will be complete and ready to use.

    Downloading PSP Games Using a Wi-Fi Connection.

      Turn on the PlayStation Portable and switch on the wireless LAN switch on the side of the hand-held. Select "PlayStation Store" from the PSP menu.

      Sign in to the PlayStation Network with your account once the system connects to the Wi-Fi network.

      Select "Downloadable Games" from the left side of the store menu. Select the type of game you want to browse. Choose the game you want to buy and select "Buy Now."

      Confirm the purchase. If your PlayStation account does not have sufficient funds, you will be prompted to add a payment source. PSN cards, available at retailers, and major credit cards will work for PSN purchases.

      Download the purchased game. Once the purchase has been confirmed, the PSP will proceed to a download screen. Selecting "Download" will save the game to the PSP memory. Games can be downloaded again in the future by accessing "View Downloads" from the upper right corner of the PSN Store screen. Games downloaded are accessible from the "Games" folder of the PSP menu.

    Downloading PSP Games Using a PC and Media Go Software.

      Install the Sony Media Go software, available free from the Sony Creative Software website (see Resource).

      Open the Media Go software. Connect the PSP system to the PC using a USB cable. If the hand-held does not connect automatically, select "USB Connection" from the PSP "Settings" menu.

      Click on the "PlayStation Store" from the options on the left side of the Media Go screen. Sign into your PSN account to access the store.

      Select "Downloadable Games" from the options at the left of the store&'s menu screen. Choose the game you wish to buy, and click on "Buy Now."

      Purchase the game you wish to download. If your account does not have sufficient funds, enter payment information from a PSN card or credit card.

      Download the game. Be sure to leave the PSP connected to the PC during the download process. Once the game has been successfully downloaded, it will be transferred to the PSP&'s memory. Games downloaded are accessible from the "Games" folder of the PSP.

    Downloading PSP Games Using a PlayStation 3.

      Turn on the PlayStation 3 console, and select "PlayStation Store" from the console menu. When the system prompts you, enter your PSN account information to sign into the PlayStation Network.

      From the PlayStation Store screen, select "Games" to access the downloadable games available for purchase. Select "PSP Games," "Minis" or "PS One Classics" to access different types of titles playable on the PSP.

      Choose the game you wish to download, and select "Buy Now." At the purchase-confirmation screen, enter any necessary payment information, if needed, and select "Confirm Purchase."

      Download the purchased content. All games downloaded will appear under the "Game" heading on the PS3 menu and must be installed before they are available for access. Selecting the downloaded game will install it to the PS3 hard drive.

      Connect the PSP system to the PlayStation 3 using a USB cable. Select "USB Connection" from the PSP menu if the system does not automatically connect. Highlight the title you wish to transfer to the PlayStation Portable, and press the "Triangle" button. Select "Copy," and the game will be transferred to the PSP memory. Once the process is complete, disconnect the PSP from the PlayStation 3. The game will be accessible from the "Game" folder on the hand-held.
