How to Put PlayStation 1 Games Onto a PlayStation 3

With more than 10 million consoles sold, the original Sony PlayStation (PS1) was an extremely popular gaming system. Although the console is no longer for sale in North America, you can play games released for it on the PlayStation 3 (PS3). If you still have your old PS1 game CDs you can play them directly on your PS3. Alternatively, a growing number of PS1 classics have been released for download through the PlayStation Network.

  • Internet connection
  • PlayStation 1 game CD (optional)

      If you have a PlayStation 1 game CD, you can play them directly on your PlayStation 3. Insert the CD into the PS3, and the game should load automatically.

      To download a PS1 game onto your PS3, select the "PlayStation Network" icon from under the "Games" column on the PS3 main menu.

      Select "Games," then "PSOne Classics" from the menus on the left side of the screen.

      This will bring you to a list of PS1 games that are available for download.

      Select a game you wish to download, and click the "Buy Now" button.

      This will bring you to the purchase confirmation screen. Select "Confirm Purchase," and then select "Download" from the screen that pops up. The game should then start to download.
