How to Use the PSP Battery Service Tool

A service tool battery is used to install custom firmware on your PSP to replace the stock Sony firmware. Firmware is what runs the PSP and acts as the operating system. Custom firmware opens up many new features, but the best is the ability to play your full PSP games off of your memory stick. There are two types of service tool batteries. They are called the Datel Service battery and the Pandora battery. Both of these batteries work exactly the same way.

Magic memory stick
Datel service tool/Pandora battery

Instructions

  Turn off the Sony PSP and remove the battery and memory stick from the device. Place the Magic memory stick into the PSP.

  Insert your Pandora/Datel service tool battery and your PSP will turn on. The PSP will now be in service mode. You will see a menu.

  Press the "X" button to begin the installation of custom firmware. Wait for about two minutes as the new firmware is installed onto the PSP. Press the "X" button to shutdown the PSP after the process completes.

  Reinsert the normal battery and memory stick back into the PSP and turn the PSP back on. The PSP will now run the custom firmware.
