How to Play Online Videos on a PSP

Unlike the simple handheld game systems of the past, the Sony PlayStation Portable, or PSP, is a full-fledged multimedia platform, capable of playing music and movies in addition to its considerable library of games. If you&'re interested in using your Sony PSP as a video player, there are two ways you can get video onto your PSP, either by acquiring videos online from the PlayStation®Store or by converting your own videos into a format the PSP can understand. Unfortunately, the PSP cannot stream videos directly from the Internet.

Instructions

  1. Playing Videos Obtained through the PlayStation®Store

    • 1

Download and install Media Go onto your computer if you do not already have it (see Resources).

    • 2

      Run Media Go.

    • 3

Select "PlayStation®Store" under the library tab.

    • 4

Browse through the store for videos of interest to you.

    • 5

Click on the "Download" button once you find a video you want. At this point you will be prompted to sign into your PlayStation Network account if you have not already.

    • 6

Use your USB cable to connect your PSP to your computer once the download has completed.

    • 7

Turn on your PSP and navigate to "USB Connection" under the "Settings" tab.

    • 8

Highlight the video you want to put on your PSP.

    • 9

Select your PSP from the drop-down list on the bar at the bottom of the screen and press "Go" to begin the transfer. A yellow message at the bottom of the screen will indicate that the file has been transferred.

    • 10

Disconnect your PSP from your computer and end USB mode. You can find the video you just downloaded on your Memory Stick and play it by pressing the "X" button.

    Playing Your Own Videos

    • 11

Download and install Aimersoft PSP Video Converter. Follow the second link in the references section to find the "PSP Video Converter."

    • 12

      Run PSP Video Converter.

    • 13

Use the "Add" button under the file menu to open your video.

    • 14

Expand the "Profile" menu and select your preferred output format under the PSP tab.

    • 15

Press the "Start" button to convert your video to MP4 format, the format understood by the PSP.

    • 16

Use your USB cable to link your PSP to your computer and enter USB mode.

    • 17

Transfer your converted video to the "Video" folder of your memory stick.

    • 18

If this folder does not exist, which means your PSP is running on Firmware 3.0 or older, you will need to create a folder on the memory stick named "MP_ROOT." Open this folder and create two more folders, "100ANV01" and "101MNV01." Place your converted video file into the "101MNV01" folder.

    • 19

Disconnect your PSP from your computer and end USB mode.

    • 20

Locate the video you transferred to your PSP on your PSP memory stick and press "X" to play it.
