How to Put Internet on PSP Manually

Sony's PSP is capable of many things, such as playing games, watching videos and accessing the PlayStation store. However, before you can access Internet features, such as the store, you must first configure your Internet. If your PSP is having difficulty automatically locating your signal, you may have to manually input your information.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your PSP. Navigate to "Network Settings" under "Settings." Press "X" to select it.

    • 2

Turn on your WLAN switch. This is on the lower left hand side of your PSP. It is on if the nub is in the upper half of the groove. The LED light next to it also will be lit when it is on correctly.

    • 3

Select "Infrastructure Mode" from the list. The only other option should be "Ad Hoc," which refers to linking two PSPs together. When you want to manually put in your Internet information, infrastructure is what you need.

    • 4

Select "New Connection," even if you have other choices on the list.

    • 5

Specify a name for your new connection. If you don't plan to make other connections for other locations, you don't need to change it from "Connection X," where X is any number. However, you may want to name it something like "Home" if you are at home. If you do want to change the name, press "X" to type it in.

    • 6

Select "Enter Manually" to manually enter your information.

    • 7

Provide the SSID, which is the Service Set Identifier. You may have changed this at the same time you set up a password on your router. Otherwise, it will be labeled somewhere on the router, clearly identified with "SSID."

    • 8

Select the kind of encryption your Internet connection has, if any. This will either be "WPA," "WEP" or "None." Provide your router's password if any. You may have set up a password yourself. Otherwise, it will be labeled on the router below the SSID.

    • 9

Provide additional WLAN settings. Leave "IP Address" as automatic. The rest of the information can be obtained by logging onto your computer and running "cmd" via your Start Menu. Type "ipconfig /all" to list the DNS and gateway settings. Insert them into the appropriate sections of your PSP.

    • 10

Select not to use the proxy when prompted.

    • 11

Continue confirming everything until you reach the "Test Connection" screen. Test your connection, and your PSP will confirm your settings are functional.
