Usage
The Sony PSP memory card is used to store any save data for games and multimedia files. This includes screenshots and replay videos for games that allow either to be recorded by the player. Videos and other files purchased through the PlayStation Network store must be downloaded to a memory card for use with the system.
Sizes
The Sony PlayStation Portable has three different sizes of memory card available. The memory card can be purchased with 2 GB, 4 GB or 8 GB of storage capacity. Sony PSP players only interested in storing save game files typically will find the 2 GB card large enough. The larger memory cards are primarily for users planning on downloading large numbers of videos from the PlayStation Network store.
Compatible Systems
The PSP memory cards are compatible with all four versions of the Sony PlayStation Portable system. This includes the PSP-1000, PSP-2000, PSP-3000 and PSP Go systems. The M2 Duo Adapter is required to use the memory card with any system other than the PSP Go. This adapter comes with the memory card.
Data Access
The Sony PSP allows the user to access the data on the memory card directly from the PSP main menu. Photo, music and video data on the memory stick can be accessed directly from the main menu using the corresponding tab. Game data can be found under the Options menu of the Games tab. The user can update, delete or copy any save game data from this menu.
Older Memory Cards
There are a number of older discontinued PSP memory cards since the system's initial release in 2004. Most of these cards have less memory than the current models, but there were a few exceptions. The sizes were 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB and 16 GB. These memory cards will not fit into the PSP Go slot because they were designed for the PSP-1000 system. These memory cards will fit into the PSP-1000, PSP-2000, and PSP-3000 memory card slots without an adapter.
