How to Play Games on the PSP From a Memory Stick

The Sony PSP has the ability to not only play games from its UMD drive, but also from the memory stick that holds full games on it. There two ways to play games from the PSP memory stick. One uses the PSN Store to purchase and download games, while the other involves downloading free games that are created by independent developers. These games are called homebrew games.

Instructions

  1. PSN Store Games

    • 1

      Select the PSN Store icon on the PSP menu and wait for the PSN Store to appear.

      Select "Games" from the PSN Store main menu and browse the list of available PSP titles.

      Select a game to see more information about it and select "Add to cart" when you are ready to make a purchase.

      Select "Checkout" and enter in your credit card or PSN Points card information and your game will be downloaded and installed onto your PSP memory stick.

      Press the "O" button a few times and you will return to the PSP menu. Go to the game section of the PSP menu and your game will be there. Select it to play.

    Homebrew Games for Custom Firmware PSPs

      Turn on your PSP and connect it to your computer with the USB cable. A window will appear on your computer and you will see the folders on the PSP memory stick.

      Download one of the homebrew games from the resource section of this guide. Right-click the downloaded folder and click "Copy."

      Open the "PSP" folder on the memory stick and right-click the "Game" folder. Click "Paste" and your homebrew game will be transferred over.

      Disconnect the PSP from the computer when the transfer completes and browse through the PSP menu into the game section. Your homebrew game will be there. Select it to play.
