How to Buy a Used PSP

The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a handheld gaming device that allows you to take movies, music and games on the road. At $169.99 brand new as of June 2010, it can be an expensive investment for many gamers. Through the used market, you can find the PSP that you want at a more affordable price.

Instructions

    • 1

Browse for available units. You can go to gaming stores such as GameStop or EB Games and view what they have in stock. Sometimes, you may be able to find an open box unit at Target or Best Buy for a discounted price, but they do not sell used units. Also be sure to browse online at Craigslist, eBay and Amazon, as those are popular outlets for individuals to sell used devices. (See References and Resources)

Compare prices for used PSPs. Prices, as well as the model of PSP, can vary depending on where you go. GameStop, for instance, sells the original PSP refurbished for $99. At eBay and Craigslist, you may be able to find a newer unit for less money. You also can bid on units on eBay so you can make sure you don't overpay. Also, don't forget to include shipping in the price if you buy online.

Compare the condition of the PSP units that you find. If you find one in a store such as GameStop or EB Games, you can physically inspect the unit and, if the clerk allows you, test it in person to ensure it is in working condition. Websites such as Craigslist and eBay do not give you that luxury, so be sure to review the seller's rating and reviews to make sure you do not get swindled.

Make your purchase. When you find the PSP that you want for the price that you wish to pay, buy it.
