How to Upgrade Your PSP for the Internet

The Sony PSP contains an internal Wi-Fi card capable of connecting to other machines or the Internet for online play. However, standalone Internet functionality was not possible until Version 2.0 of the system's firmware, which added a Web browser and improved security for users accessing the Internet through public networks. Upgrading your PSP to access these firmware improvements is a simple matter of downloading the new firmware and installing it from your computer.

    • 4

Open the "PSP" folder, and within this, the "Games" folder. Right-click within the "Game" folder and choose "New Folder." Call this folder "Update."

    • 5

Place the downloaded PSP update file in the "Update" folder, then eject and remove your PSP.

    • 6

Connect your PSP to a power outlet and navigate to the "Games" menu. Choose "MemoryStick" and select "PSP Update." Wait for the update to launch, then press "X" to confirm the update. Don't turn off your PSP or disconnect from the power source while the update is installing. In about two minutes, the PSP will display a message that your update is successful. You can now access the Internet through the "Internet Browser" section of the menu's "Network" tab.
