How to Take Apart a PSP 1001

The PlayStation Portable (PSP) has evolved into a number of models since it was first introduced, although the basic configuration and internal components have remained the same. You can take the PSP 1001 model apart in much the same fashion as the subsequent models, providing you have a few tools and are willing to void any Sony warranty. Taking the PSP 1001 apart will let you clean the portable game console so that it will continue to function at peak efficiency. But again, it voids the warranty.

Turn the PSP over. Rotate it so that the disk door is facing away from you and pull the faceplate off with your hands.

    • 5

Insert the tip of the screwdriver beneath the left end of the black metal bar inside the front, bottom edge of the PSP. Lift up on the tip of the screwdriver to raise the black metal bar off the PSP. Do the same to the right side of the metal bar.

    • 7

Insert the tip of the screwdriver beneath the left side of the LCD panel at the center of the PSP. Lift the tip of the screwdriver to raise the left side of the LCD panel off. Repeat this procedure on the right side. Remove the cable attached to the LCD panel from the circuit board with your tweezers.

Remove the screws from the left side of the PSP and pull the module off. Do the same on the right side.
