How to Install Custom Firmware on PSP Without Pandora Battery

The Sony PlayStation Portable can use custom firmware to open up new features. These features include using custom music tracks when playing games, and also the ability to play games from the PSP memory stick. Normally you can use the Pandora battery to install custom firmware, but if you would rather use a different means to install custom firmware, there is one other tool you can use.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the Sony PSP and remove the normal battery and memory stick from the device.

    • 2

Insert the Magic memory stick into the PSP card reader slot. This is what holds the custom firmware, and it is vital to insert this first.

    • 3

Insert the Datel service tool and the PSP will turn on automatically. Your PSP will be in service mode and you will see a menu displayed.

    • 4

Press the "X" button two times to install custom firmware. Wait as the new firmware is installed and press the "X" button again to shut it down when prompted.

    • 5

Remove the Datel service tool and the Magic memory stick. Insert the normal battery and memory stick into the PSP and power the PSP on again. The PSP is now running custom firmware.
