How to Fix a PSP R Button

The Sony PSP is a versatile gaming system that allows you to play games on the move. With its versatility comes more challenges as it is exposed to a wider range of issues. A common problem found in the PSP are the "L" and "R" buttons breaking. Although a common issue, the PSP can be fixed with minimal work.

  • Rubbing alcohol

Instructions

  1. Opening the PSP

    • 1

      Remove the battery cover and battery.

      Remove the seven screws that hold the front and back of the case together with an eyeglass-size philips screwdriver. Four screws are located behind where the battery sits (make sure to look underneath the stickers). One screw is located on the front edge of the system. Two screws will be located on the back right hand side of the PSP in recessed holes.

      Remove the front faceplate slowly and set it aside.

    Cleaning the "R" button

      Remove the "R" button by sliding it up and out of its seat.

      Remove the metal bracket sitting underneath the "R" button as well as the rubber pad inside it.

      Take a cotton swab or cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol and wipe the rubber pad as well as the contact area directly below it until clean and free of debris.

      Put the rubber pad and metal bracket back into place.

    • 8

      Re-assemble the PSP in reverse order.
