How to Open a 2000 PSP

The Sony PlayStation Portable 2000, also called the PSP Slim because it's slightly thinner than the original PSP, is easy to open if you're trying to repair any of the internal components. The process involves removing some screws and just taking the cover off. Be warned, though, that since Sony wants you to pay them to fix your PSP, you'll more than likely void your warranty if you go through with this procedure. If you don't care about the warranty and don't expect that your PSP will go down in flames while you're opening it, then let's get to it!

Instructions

    • 1

Open the disc drive to ensure that there's not a game disc inside.

    • 2

      Turn off the PSP.

    • 3

Remove the memory stick from its bay on the left side of the PSP.

    • 4

Turn the PSP over so that the back faces you and slide off the battery compartment cover.

    • 5

Remove the battery from the compartment. You should see at least three screws and a warranty sticker, which normally covers the last screw. If you can see and access four screws, you're in good shape, because the warranty sticker says that if you remove it, your warranty is voided.

    • 6

Extract the four screws. If the warranty sticker covers a screw, then remove the warranty sticker, void the warranty, and extract the screw underneath it.

    • 7

Extract the screw on the bottom of the PSP.

    • 8

Extract the two screws on the top of the PSP.

    • 9

Separate the front cover from the back and the PSP is opened for any repairs or modifications you need to do on the inside.

    • 10

Replace the front cover by performing the procedure in reverse.
