How to Play Japanese Games on an American PSP

The Sony PSP is Sony's portable addition to its PlayStation family of video game consoles. The machine allows gamers to access hundreds of games developed for the system on the go, enabling play of popular series like "Madden NFL" and "Grand Theft Auto" while riding the bus or visiting a friend. One factor that increases the console's library is the region-free nature of PSP games. Unlike PlayStation 2 or 3 games, there are no zoning restrictions on PSP software. The only occasional hurdle is working out how to play some games.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a Japanese-made game into the UMD slot of your PSP and turn the system on.

    • 2

Navigate to the "Game" menu of the console and select the name of your game with the "X" button. Note that the title may be displayed in Japanese characters.

    • 3

Start a game by pressing your PSP's "Start" button from the main menu of the game. As PSP games contain no zoning restrictions, the game will load and launch just like a domestic title.

    • 4

Access online manuals to help you learn how to play the game. If your game contains no English instructions or in-game text, it may take longer than usual to work out how to play the game. User manuals for many games can be downloaded from the sites in the "Resources" section.

Access online tutorials if no manuals are available. The third site in the "Resources" section contains many professionally approved game tutorials for video games both domestic and imported. These can help you learn the game's controls and start you on your way while you get a feel for the game.
