Instructions to How to Put Computer Games Onto Your PSP

The Sony PSP has a wide variety of games developed for the system in Sony's proprietary UMD format or via download from the company's PlayStation Net service. However, there are many more games to be explored if you're interested in the home-brew gaming scene. An emulation program exists that allows you to use your PSP to play DOS games originally designed for home computers. It's as easy as downloading the software and transferring it to your PSP.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Sony PSP with Firmware version 1.50

Instructions

    • 1

Download DOSBox Easy Navigator, the program that allows you to play computer games on your PSP. Save the file to your desktop and double-click to unzip.

    • 2

Place the DOS games you wish to play on your PSP into the "Game" directory of the "DOSBox" folder. These can be downloaded from "abandonware" websites (see resources), found on auction sites such as eBay, or purchased from the bargain bins of computer game stores.

    • 3

Connect your PSP to the USB port of your computer. Turn the system on and select "USB Connect" from the console's "System" menu.

    • 4

Copy the "DOSBox" folder unzipped in Step 1 to the root directory of your PSP. This directory will be shown in "My Computer" as "PSP" or "Memory Stick."

    • 5

Enter the folder "MS_ROOT/PSP" unzipped in Step 1. Copy the folder "Game150" to the "PSP" directory of your PSP. Eject, remove and reset your PSP.

    • 6

Launch DOSBox Easy Navigator from the "Game" section of your PSP's main menu. Select the game you wish to play with the D-pad and launch it with the "X" button.
