How to Fix Your PSP When Turned off During Updates

The Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) can become inoperable if it turns off in the middle of a firmware update. Other than sending it back to Sony for repair, the only solution is to use a jig-kick, or pandora, battery. It places the PSP into service mode so you can flash new firmware onto the device.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the PSP battery and memory stick from the device. You will use these again so keep them close.

    • 2

Insert the magic memory stick into the PSP card reader. The memory stick holds the firmware that will be flashed onto the PSP.

    • 3

Insert the pandora battery and the PSP will turn on automatically. Press the "X" button twice to flash the firmware to the PSP. Press "X" again to shut down the PSP.

    • 4

Reinsert the normal battery and memory stick and turn the PSP back on. Plug the PSP into its charger and go through the normal update process again by selecting "System Update" on the PSP menu.
