How to Open a PSP Game File With Many RAR Files

Many times when you download files from the Internet, they will be in some type of archive like a Zip or RAR file. Extracting the files, or uncompressing them, is simple and can be done with many different extraction tools. When you download PSP homebrew games, they will often be in a RAR archive. To open them, you simply need to extract the game file to a directory on your computer. To play the game, you need to be running custom firmware on your PSP.

Instructions

  1. Extracting the Game

    • 1

Download one of the unrar tools from the Resource section. They all work exactly the same, so any of them will suffice.

    • 2

Locate the RAR files that you want to extract. You cannot simply select any of them and extract it. You will notice that the file extensions will read r00, r01, r02 and so on. These are not to be extracted. Locate the file that has ".rar" on the end of it. This is the extractable file.

    • 3

Right-click the .rar file and a new window will appear. If you installed 7zip, select "7zip" and "Extract Here" to extract the contents. If you installed WinRAR, select "Extract Files" and "OK" to extract the game file. If you installed RarZilla, click "RarZilla" to extract the game file. The game file is now open.

Installing Custom Firmware and the Game

    • 4

Turn off your Sony PSP and remove the battery and memory stick from the device. Insert the Magic memory stick and Pandora battery and the PSP will turn on by itself. Press the "X" button twice to install custom firmware onto your PSP. Press "X" again to shut down the PSP when the install completes. Remove the battery and memory stick, and replace them with the normal ones.

    • 5

Connect your PSP to your computer with the USB cable and select "USB Connection" from the PSP menu to place the device into USB mode. A window will appear on your computer, giving you access to the PSP memory stick. Open the "PSP" folder to reveal the Game folder. This is where your games will be stored.

    • 6

Locate the game file that you extracted and right-click it. Click "Copy" and go back to the Game folder. Right-click the folder and click "Paste" to transfer the game to the PSP Game folder. Press the "O" button on the PSP gamepad to safely disconnect the PSP from the computer after the transfer is completed.
