How to Fix an Analog That Is Stuck on PSP

In 2004 and 2005, Sony released their first handheld gaming device called the Playstation Portable. Playing an assortment of games on universal media discs (UMDs), the original unit was eventually succeeded by PSP Slim, PSP Lite, and PSP Go. Unfortunately, many owners of the handheld device experienced problems with the analog stick. The only permanent remedy is to replace the analog stick with another.

  • Small Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement PSP analog stick assembly

Instructions

    • 1

      Remove the three visible screws with the Phillips screwdriver. There are two on the back of the device and one on the underside.

      Remove the battery cover and the battery.

      Remove both screws that reside under the battery. One is immediately visible and the other is under a sticker.

      Pull the PSP faceplate away from the device.

      Remove both screws holding the analog stick in place.

    • 6

      Pull the broken stick away from the unit and replace with the new assembly.

    • 7

      Replace the faceplate and all screws to their previous positions. Do not screw too tightly to avoid stripping.

    • 8

      Replace the battery and turn on your device to test out the new stick.
