Put a memory card into the PSP's memory slot. Turn the PSP on. Navigate to the "Devices" icon. Select the icon of the memory card beneath "Devices."
Select "Format" from the list of choices presented on the right side of the icon of the memory card. Press the "A" button to format the memory card.
Navigate to the "Settings" icon when the formatting is completed. Select "USB Connection" from beneath "Settings."
Attach the PSP connector of the PSP connection cable to the PSP. Attach the other end of the PSP connection cable to a USB port on the PC.
Press the "X" button on the PSP. Wait for the icon of the memory card to appear on the PC's desktop.
Double-click on the icon of the memory card to open its window. Double-click on the "PSP" folder inside of the window. Double-click on the "Game" folder inside of the "PSP" folder.
Download a PSP recovery program to the desktop of the PC--for example, the Recovery PSP program (see the link in Resources).
Right-click on the icon of the PSP recovery program once it has fully downloaded. Select "Extract files" from the pop-up menu. Select the PC's desktop in the window that appears and click on "Save."
Double-click on the icon of the extracted files folder that was just made. Drag the PSP recovery program from inside of the extracted file folder into the "Game" folder inside the "PSP" folder. Wait for the PSP recovery program to copy over
Right-click on the icon of the memory card. Select "Eject" from the pop-up menu. Turn the PSP off. Remove the PSP connection cable from the PSP and from the USB port of the computer.
Turn the PSP on. Hold the right trigger down until text appears on the LCD screen.
Scroll down the text until you highlight "Run program... ." Press the "X" button. Wait as the PSP prepares to downgrade the PSP firmware. Press "X" when the text states that the program is ready to perform the downgrade.
Turn the PSP off when the program states that it has finished. Turn the PSP back on to use it with the downgraded firmware.
