How to Install a PSP Analog Stick

The PlayStation Portable is the first portable console to make use of an analog joystick. This component can come loose and break with prolonged or vigorous play. If you need to install a new analog stick to replace one that has broken, you will need to open up your PSP.

      Open the battery bay cover and take out your PSP̵7;s battery.

      Remove the joystick thumb pad. This piece will simply snap out of place.

      Remove the five small Phillips-head screws that connect the faceplate to your PSP. Two black screws are located in the battery bay on the left side of the back of the PSP, two black screws are located on the right side of the back of the PSP, and the final screw is a silver one located on the bottom of the PSP next to the system's barcode.

      Flip your console back over and lift off the faceplate.

      Remove the two screws that secure the analog stick to the faceplate. You can now remove the analog stick unit and put a new one in its place. Replace the two screws to secure the new analog stick.

      Replace the faceplate and reassemble your PSP.
