How to Tell If You Have a Fat PSP Battery

The Sony PlayStation Portable, PSP for short, is a handheld video game console that uses a Universal Media Disc (UMD) to play games. In addition to playing games, the PSP also functions as a picture and video viewer, music player and Internet connectivity device. Several models of PSPs have been manufactured by Sony. Aside from the cosmetic differences that each model possesses, each model comes with a separate model number that can be used to identify the different types of consoles. The PSP runs on a battery pack that can be recharged either by use of an A/C adapter or through the USB connection, depending on the model.

Instructions

    • 1

Look on the bottom of the Sony PSP console. You will see a white sticker with a barcode and a model number. The model number will read "PSP-1001" if you have a North American, "fat" model PSP. Japanese models (sold only in Japan) will have "PSP-1000" as the model number. Having a "fat" model PSP will mean that you also have the "fat" PSP battery.

Remove the battery cover from the back of the console by pressing in on the tab that is marked "Push." This will release the battery cover and allow you access to the battery.

    • 3

Remove the battery from the PSP and look at the sticker on the battery itself. A fat battery will be identified by the product number "1800mAh."
