How to Update Your PSP 1001

All versions of the PlayStation Portable have the ability to update its internal firmware to add new features. You can either update your PSP directly from a wireless Internet connection or you can download the update onto your computer and transfer it to your computer.

Instructions

  1. Wi-Fi Update

    • 1

      Charge your PSP battery to its full capacity and leave the PSP connected to a power outlet.

      Connect your PSP to a wireless access point. To configure your connection, go to the ̶0;Settings̶1; tab in the Xross Media Bar and selecting ̶0;Network Settings̶1;.

      Select ̶0;System Update̶1; from the ̶0;Settings̶1; tab in the Xross Media Bar. If an update is available, it will be automatically downloaded and installed onto your PSP.

    PC Transfer

      Download the PSP update from the PlayStation website.

      Connect your PSP to your computer using the USB cable. Select ̶0;USB Connection̶1; from the ̶0;Settings̶1; tab on you PSP to put it into USB mode.

      Open your PSP from the ̶0;My Computer̶1; window on your PC.

      Create a ̶0;PSP̶1; folder on your PSP. Within that folder, create a ̶0;GAME̶1; folder. Within the ̶0;GAME̶1; folder, create an ̶0;UPDATE̶1; folder.

      Copy the PSP update into the ̶0;UPDATE̶1; folder on your PSP.

      Exit USB mode on your PSP and select the update, which will be found on your memory stick under the ̶0;Games̶1; tab. The update will be installed onto your PSP.
