How to Modify a PSP to Play Games on a Memory Stick

The Sony PlayStation Portable is a powerful video game device that has a large independent developer community. This community does a lot of work on the PSP, including creating brand new firmware to run it. This firmware is called custom firmware and is legal, but installing it will void your warranty. Once custom firmware is installed, you can do a lot of extra things with your PSP, but probably the best new feature is the ability to store and play games from the memory stick.

Turn off your PSP and unplug the power cable if it is plugged in. Remove the normal battery and Memory Stick from the PSP and place them aside.

    • 2

Put your Magic Memory Stick in the PSP first. Put your Pandora battery in the PSP second. Your PSP will turn on automatically, and a blank screen will appear. After a few seconds, white lettering will appear.

    • 3

Press the "X" button to proceed with installing custom firmware. Press the "X" button again to verify your selection and wait as the new firmware is installed onto the PSP.

    • 4

Press the "X" button to power down the PSP when the install is complete and remove the battery and Memory Stick. Reinsert your normal battery and memory stick and turn your PSP back on, sliding the power button upward. Your PSP now can play games directly from the Memory Stick.
