How to Play UMD Games From a Memory Stick

A PSP, while designed to play games on UMB disks, have been hacked to do everything from play Super Nintendo games to running Windows XP. One of the many homebrew applications for the PlayStation Portable is the ability to play full PSP games from a Memory Stick. Making this happen with your PSP is not an overly difficult task, though you should always be careful when using non-approved applications on your device.

Things You'll Need

  • PC or Laptop with memory stick support
  • Memory Stick Duo
  • UMD .ISO file
  • UMD Emulator v0.8c

Instructions

    • 1

Insert your Memory Stick into your laptop or PC and allow your computer a moment to recognize the new memory.

    • 2

Download the UMD Emulator files from the proper website (see Resources) and save those files to the Memory Stick.

    • 3

Move your UMD .ISO file to the Memory Stick DUO. Considering the large size of .ISO files, make sure your Memory Stick has enough free space to store it.

    • 4

Open your Memory Stick drive from inside your Operating System by going to "My Computer" (or equivalent) and clicking on the Memory Stick icon. This will open a new window listing all the files on the Memory Stick.

    • 5

Create a new folder and name it "ISO". Drag the .ISO file into the ISO folder once the folder is made.

    • 6

Remove the Memory Stick from your computer and insert it into your PSP before turning the PSP on.

    • 7

Navigate to the Memory Stick icon under the "Game" listing. Click "X" and select the UMD Emulator option. Once this is done, all you have to do is pick the UMD on the Memory Stick to begin the game.
