How to Fix a Slim PSP Battery

There are many PlayStation Portable (PSP) enthusiasts who have modified their battery to alter the operating system to play games created by other PSP owners. You can fix the battery so that it can again be used to power the PSP, providing that it is a ̶0;slim̶1; battery from any generation of PSP other than the first-generation model. You do not need any electrical experience to fix the battery, nor will the PSP be damaged in any way by using the battery afterwards.

Things You'll Need

  • Soft cloth
  • PSP
  • Flat-edged jeweler̵7;s screwdriver
  • PSP power cord

Instructions

    • 1

      Lay a soft cloth down on a table. Put the PSP face down on the soft cloth. Insert the tip of the flat-edged jeweler̵7;s screwdriver into the seam between the battery compartment lid on the left side of the PSP and the body of the PSP.

      Wiggle the tip to loosen the battery compartment lid. Remove the battery compartment lid. Use your fingers to remove any other battery that might be in the battery compartment.

      Plug the PSP power cord into the power input on the bottom right side of the PSP. Plug the PSP power cord into a wall socket for power.

      Insert the ̶0;slim̶1; battery into the battery compartment. Push down on the battery so that it makes a good connection with the contacts inside of the battery compartment. Put the battery compartment lid onto the battery compartment. Turn the PSP back face up on the soft cloth.

      Turn on the PSP. Navigate from the Home menu to the ̶0;Games̶1; icon on the PSP. Select the ̶0;Battery creator̶1; program that was installed when the PSP was modified by the ̶0;slim̶1; battery. Press the ̶0;X̶1; button to activate the program.

      Wait as the ̶0;Battery creator̶1; program loads and displays text on the screen. Press the ̶0;Square̶1; button. Wait as the ̶0;Battery creator̶1; program displays a few lines of text, then quits and shuts off the PSP.

      Turn the PSP face down on the soft cloth. Insert the tip of the flat-edged jeweler̵7;s screwdriver into the seam between the battery compartment lid. Wiggle the tip to loosen the battery compartment lid.

      Remove the battery compartment lid. Use your fingers to remove the ̶0;slim̶1; battery from the battery compartment. Remove the PSP power cord from the power input on the PSP.

      Reinsert the ̶0;slim̶1; battery into the battery compartment. Push the ̶0;slim̶1; battery down into the battery compartment so that it makes a good connection. Close the battery compartment lid on the battery compartment.

      Turn the PSP face up on the soft cloth. Slide the power switch at the lower right side of the PSP upwards to turn the console on. Wait as the Home menu comes up on the PSP now that the ̶0;slim̶1; battery has been fixed.
