How to Make Your Own PSP Docking Station

Keeping your desk or home organized means having a place to put everything. A home, like a docking station, is a perfect place to keep your gadgets to keep them out of the way and keep them charging well. There are a wide number of docks available on the Internet, but you could just as easily make one for yourself for about $3 in materials. It's a quick project that can be worth it for anyone whose PSP keeps falling off their desk.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Open the DVD case and lay it flat. Point the front cover of the DVD toward yourself. (The front cover doesn't have the DVD spine on it.)

    • 2

About 1 inch from the spine of the DVD case, draw a centered rectangle about 6-1/8-inches-wide by 1-1/8-inches-deep on the front panel of the cover. Draw this long edge of the rectangle so it's along the spine. Hold your PSP over the mark to verify that it will fit through it.

    • 3

On the back panel of the DVD, on the rear side wall, mark a 1/2-inch rectangular hole to fit the PSP power cable though. Place this rectangle about 3/4 inch from the top or bottom of the DVD case.

    • 4

Cut through both marks with your utility knife. Keep the long rectangular piece, but throw the little tab away. If there's a transparent layer on the DVD case, you'll need to cut through that as well.

    • 5

Cut the rectangular piece in half to form two pieces about 3 inches in length. Bend these into 90-degree angles.

    • 6

Super glue these pieces onto the front panel so that half of the 90-degree bend fits through the rectangular hole, about 1/4 inch from the narrow sides. When you close the case, these two plastic pieces will stick out of the hole, giving you somewhere to lean the PSP against.

    • 7

Wait a few minutes for the super glue to dry.

    • 8

Close the DVD case, and roughly mark the rectangle's location onto the back panel.

    • 9

Open the DVD case again, and cover that mark on the back panel with the sponge, foam or rubber piece that you have. This will act as a stopper, keeping the PSP in place when it is docked.

    • 10

Slide the PSP in through the front of the case, with the screen facing the spine of the DVD case, and mark where the power cable plug is on the unit. Measure the location of this plug, and mark it on the back spine.

    • 11

Hold the power cable in place on the mark, and tape it securely in place with your electrical tape. Make sure you tape especially well around the plug itself. Lead the remaining cable out of the hole in the back of the DVD cover.

    • 12

      Snap the DVD case closed.

    • 13

Slide the PSP into the slot on the front, making sure that the power cable slides into the corresponding plug on the PSP. Plug your power cable into the wall, and it will start charging.
