How to Increase the Wireless Range of a PSP

The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) comes equipped with wireless capability. The PSP can automatically detect and connect to any wireless access points within its range. In some cases, gamers might find themselves slightly too far away from an access point, which results in a weak signal and lagging online play. Fortunately, you can increase your PSP's range using a makeshift antenna made out of a simple household item: Aluminum foil.

Things You'll Need

  • Aluminum foil sheet (2 feet long)
  • Aluminum foil sheet (6 inches long)
  • Scotch tape

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the 2-foot aluminum foil sheet in half three times lengthwise so it is 3 inches wide.

    • 2

Fold the sheet in half width-wise.

    • 3

Fold two corners of the sheet diagonally so that a cone is formed on one of the shorter sides of the sheet, and the other side of the sheet will have two flaps.

    • 4

Fold the two flaps in half diagonally facing toward the coned side of the sheet. This will make the sheet look like a "W."

    • 5

Fold the corners of the flaps down in the same manner as Step 3. This will make all three ends of the sheet cone-shaped.

    • 6

Tape the loose ends of the foil sheet.

    • 7

Fold the 6-inch aluminum sheet three times lengthwise, then one time width-wise.

    • 8

Tape this smaller sheet to the bottom of your "W" sheet, creating a "W" with a handle sticking out of the bottom. Tape this structure to the back of your PSP.

    • 9

Turn your PSP on and check "Network Connections" in the main menu. Your PSP's wireless range should be increased.
