How to Configure Windows Media Player 11 to Sync With a PSP

When you can't play games on your PlayStation Portable, you can still use the device to listen to your digital library of music. Using Windows Media Player 11, PSP owners are able to sync music from their computers onto their hand-held gaming device. While Windows Media Player 11 will automatically sync your entire library if you have enough memory available on your PSP's memory stick, you can also configure the player to transfer songs and playlists of your choosing, keeping only the music you want on your PSP.

      Download and install Windows Media Player 11 onto your computer. The program is offered free of charge on the Microsoft Windows Media website (see Resources). Launch Windows Media Player 11 after you have finished installation.

    • 2

      Insert a Memory Stick Pro Duo with 4 GB or more available memory into your PSP. Having 4 GB of available memory will allow Media Player 11 to perform a full sync of your music onto the PSP.

    • 3

      Attach your PSP to your computer using a USB connector cable. The cable is plugged into the mini-USB port on the top of your PSP and any USB port on your computer.

    • 4

      Turn on your PSP and choose ̶0;Settings̶1; from the Cross Media Bar. Move down the settings menu with the directional pad and press ̶0;X̶1; to select ̶0;USB Connection.̶1;

    • 5

      Click ̶0;Finish̶1; on your computer when Windows Media Player 11 prompts you to perform an automatic sync. This will copy the entire contents of your Windows Media Player 11 library onto your PSP. This sync will occur each time you connect your PSP to your computer.

      Select ̶0;Sync̶1; from the top menu on Windows Media Player 11. Scroll down to your PSP on the menu and then click on ̶0;Set Up Sync.̶1;

    • 7

      Click the check box to set the PSP to sync automatically in the future. Leaving the box unchecked will allow you to control what music content is transferred onto your PSP.

    • 8

      Choose playlists of music to add to the PSP by choosing from the ̶0;Available Playlists̶1; menu and clicking the box labeled ̶0;Add.̶1; Click ̶0;Finish̶1; to transfer your selected music onto the PSP and return to the main Windows Media Player 11 screen.

      Return to the ̶0;Set Up Sync̶1; menu in the future to delete playlists and songs from your PSP. Highlight the music you want to remove from the list displayed on the right and click ̶0;Remove.̶1;
